At the core of ACMOMS lies a belief.

A belief to tread a path undiscovered by others, rather than follow the norm.

The Asian Consensus Meetings are a CODS initiative and have been organized with the vision of creating one VOICE OF ASIA which would be 'from Asia for Asians', thus bringing Asia to the forefront. The aim has been to bring together the crème de la crème of the Asian bariatric community to deliberate on the existing issues in bariatric surgery. These meetings have maintained the tradition of academic excellence and have been an academic feast like none other. All the meetings were endorsed by premier surgical societies across the world and have been extremely well received in the Asian subcontinent and the rest of the world.

After the success of the first Bariatric Nutrition Master Class, our nutritionists have decided to take Bariatric Nutrition up another level - the Bariatric Nutrition Conference will be held on the 6th of July, this year… more details to follow so on…

ACMOMS 6 – Controversies in Metabolic Surgery
July 5 and 6, 2013 Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh
For scores of obese patients who hardly had any long term option for weight loss or riddance from comorbidities, Bariatric Surgery came as an immense source of relief. It has however been dogged by controversies ever since its inception. Despite great results, sckeptics have kept up the fire of controversy around it.

Delightfully enough, the answers to these questions have constantly evolved as innumerable technological advances went on taking place. This resulted into creation of medical literature across the world about the long term results Bariatric Surgery could achieve.

Did somebody say, "No great advance has ever been made in science, politics or religion without controversy"? We take this opportunity - now that the controversy has made Bariatric Surgery so well-known - to once again bring together surgeons, diabetologists and all players in the field on one platform to dwell on "Controversies in Metabolic Surgery".
ACMOMS 7 – Complications and Revision Surgery
June 20, 21 and 22, 2014 - Udaipur, India
"Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself. "
Eleanor Roosevelt

As bariatric surgery rises in the popularity charts among the surgeons and patients, it is high time that our efforts be strongly directed towards minimizing the surgical morbidity and mortality. It is time to establish a culture of safety and harm reduction. The goal of this meeting was to get together, think hard and reflect about failures because eventually, it is the ability to resist failure or to use these failures to enable better and sustainable success rates after surgery.
ACMOMS 8 – Controversies in Bariatric Surgery- Revisited And Live Bariatric Surgery Workshop
June 5 to 7, 2015, India Srinagar, India
"When a thing ceases to be a subject of controversy, it ceases to be a subject of interest"

Bariatric surgery has been riddled with controversies since the time of its inception. An ever increasing web of newer procedures, more data and information, newer guidelines, a concept change from a weight loss only procedure to a metabolic procedure for curing medical diseases and a growing number of new bariatric surgeons are continuously adding to the debate surrounding bariatric surgery.

In recent times bariatric surgery has emerged as destiny's favorite child from being vilified by media and scorned upon by medical professionals as a drastic short cut to being the only ray of light for those who have tasted successful results with it.

Someone said that "the most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence either way". In the wake of some really great evidence coming our way in the last couple of years we thought it was time to revisit the controversies and lay at least a few of them to rest.

Highlights of the meeting:
  • Live surgery workshop on June 5th, 2015- Some of the best international surgical gurus operated live
  • Interactive debates & panel discussions on current controversies in bariatric surgery
  • Video master class – Complications and Revision Bariatric Surgery
  • Young achiever award for "best original paper presentation" for a surgeon under 35 years of age. To be judged by a panel of international experts.- "Travel fellowship to IFSO 2015”
